What to Expect from the Airlines in 2012 - The Bright Side

We had to add that caveat, because when you start talking about what the airlines are going to unveil next, the news is rarely good.

But the good people at Jaunted have gathered up a bunch of good news about improvements that just might make it to your next flight. New seating, better in-flight technology, overhauled lounges, and more.

This stuff may not make up for baggage fees and crappy, expensive food - but we’ll take what we can get.

After a pilot program at several airports in the fall, the PreCheck program will roll out to some of the nation’s busiest hubs in early 2012.

These kinds of changes may be just what the travel industry needs after a very bumpy few years.

Pilots To Finally Get Some Sleep

Have you ever heard the pilot over the loudspeaker and thought, “He sounds like he hasn’t slept in days.”

Well, you may have been right - but that’s finally about to change.

The FAA’s rules about pilot schedules and rest time hadn’t been updated since the 1960’s. Needless to say, sleep science has come a long way since then, and on Wednesday, the FAA introduced new rules that will go a lot further toward making sure the people flying the plane aren’t falling asleep at the wheel.

Your fellow passengers, however, as still just as likely to nod off on your shoulder. The FAA can’t do anything about that.
