San Francisco International Airport Kiosks Sell Airplane Carbon Emissions

Monday, September 21st, 2009

If you are flying from the San Francisco International Airport, you can start to feel just a bit better about your contribution to the environment. The airport now has three kiosks available where passengers can pay a voluntary fee to counteract their flight’s carbon emissions.

A traveler will visit a kiosk and enter their flight details to see just how many pounds of carbon dioxide they will be offsetting. The machine charges $13.50 per ton.

According to U.S.A. Today, a round-trip from the San Francisco International Airport to New York City’s John F. Kennedy International Airport would cost $23.42 a person.

Out of the $13.50 per ton voluntary fee charged, $12 then funds reforestation in Mendocino County. The final $1.50 helps San Francisco environmental programs.

When flying from the San Francisco International Airport, you’ll want to choose off airport parking through AirportParkingReservations.com. This will mean you can drive your hybrid or electric car to the airport, staying just as “green” and environmentally friendly as you choose to. Best of all, when you choose off airport parking you’ll have the free time to use one of these kiosks and know you are making yet another difference for the environment.
