Recently, Los Angeles International Airport announced that all its service vehicle companies would be required to run on alternative, greener fuels by 2015. Now it seems that this mantle has been picked up by other airport shuttle operators in other parts of the United States.
One notable example here is a Seattle-based shuttle company that serves Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. When you consider that the company currently burns 800,000 gallons of fuel every year and travels literally millions of miles across its fleet (that has around 200 vehicles in total, including vans, coaches and sedans), it is certainly good news for the environment that they are switching to greener energy.
Just like the airport shuttle companies at LAX, the Seattle shuttle provider is also switching to propane autogas, which is increasingly popular in its use as an alternative fuel. Not only is propane greener than regular gas options but it is also cheaper, which is a fact of interest to many other companies as US gas prices continue to rise.
As the US aims to become less reliant on foreign oil, it also seems likely that propane and other forms of alternative energy will become more and more common. Added to this, President Obama recently issued a target that all vehicles in the federal fleet must run on alternative fuel by 2015.
This means that the Seattle-based airport shuttle company will be in good company and, as propane autogas becomes more widely used, it seems inevitable that more and more shuttle companies will soon be following suit and making use of this effective green fuel.
